Want an aptmt in Hyd? get married :S

No kidding.

This is exactly what a real-estate broker told me when I was moving to Hyderabad just about an year ago. It took me a while to search and find a decent apartment in the city. I had to forego several vacant apartments cos the owners were adamant that they wont rent it out to bachelors.

I couldve gotten something to live easily in and around the area where the IT establishments are present. But to be frank those places are too far away from the ‘real city’ and since I can speak the local languages I can live pretty much anywhere in the city. So I was looking for something in a prime residential area, *not posh/rich* but where the standard of living is good, most of the necessities are accesible by walk.

It was a big challenge and I finally found one and didnt even haggle abt the price. Just signed the damn agreement :)

I normally dont bother neighbors or anyone for that matter if I dont abosolutely have to. But of late my neigbors seem to want me out of the apartment, just cos I dont bother them enough. They are passing resolution after resolution every week that the owners cannot rent it out to bachelors.
Obviously I wouldnt care for all this. As long as the owner of my apartment doesnt tell me to, I wouldnt care a penny worth for all this nonsense. However if the owner of my aptmt has no grounds to ask me to leave cos I am a bachelor. The consumer court with kick their rear. ha ha! Righ to Live buddy. Of course he can give me another fake reason and ask me to leave, in which case I have to.
Let me summarize some Bachelor-myths people carry in Hyd::

1. All bachelors invite friends nightly, booze and some other activities and create nuisance to the neighbors regularly.
2. All bachelors dont take care of apartment and destroy fittings etc..

I think you know where I am getting to. I think most of the reasons are flimsy at best and any bad or nuisance act that can be commited by a bachelor is equally likely to be commited by a married dude.
Moreover I think apartment owners should give preference to bachelors cos
1. They dont use the apartment so much. Imagine the amount of damage/depreciation that could be caused by a family of 2 children compared to a couple of bachelor guys who dont cook, who just use the apartment to sleep for the most part :)
2. Bachelors will be ready to pay more rent, and easy to move out if they are asked to.

The list goes on. If I were an apartment owner, I would rent it to a bachelor over a family, any day of the week.
